HVM Racing: organiser of motor races for historic vehicles

Dijon Motors Cup - Week-end film

This weekend saw the eleventh edition of the Dijon Motors Cup take place on the renowned Côte d'Or circuit. The line-up included nine modern and historic European grids, all the way up to Formula 1, bringing together drivers from some fifteen countries. René Arnoux, guest of honour, came to celebrate his 1977 European F2 championship title by taking the wheel of a March 77b from that same year.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEKEND

After a lively weekend on the Burgundy circuit, let's take a look back at the highlights of this festive weekend. Alongside the double and triple confrontations for some of the grids, some of which introduced this year's champions such as the Lotus Cup Europe and the F2 Classic Interseries, which were playing out their finals, Formula 1 was also on show. The public had the chance to discover 4 Formula 1 cars on track, whose V8 and V10 engines roared through the neighbouring valleys. Among them was the spectacular ex-Mark Webber Jaguar R5 driven by Dutchman Klaas Zwart, and the Williams FW-33, driven by Tristan Gommendy, who made 13 appearances in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, including 3 podiums, and who was back in action in this single-seater, for which he was the test driver that same year. They were accompanied by a Prost AP04 brought in for the occasion by LRS Formula with organiser Laurent Vallery-Masson at the wheel and the AGS SH 04 in the hands of Swiss driver Christian Vaglio-Giors.

At midday on Saturday and Sunday, René Arnoux, who has 162 races, 18 pole positions, 22 podium finishes and 7 Grand Prix victories to his name, took the wheel of a 1977 March 77b F2, the year of his European Championship title in the category. It was an opportunity for him to do a few laps of this track, which reminds him of his finest hours, including the remarkable battle with Gilles Villeneuve during the 1979 French F1 Grand Prix on the same circuit.

The Triumph Competition & British HTGT + Fast Seventies and F2 Classic Interseries grids also had their Grid Walk on Saturday and Sunday respectively, much to the delight of the spectators who took the option to get up close and personal with these racing cars.

THEY SAID :

René Arnoux, European F2 Champion in 1977 and former F1 driver: I love F1, Dijon and the people who share our passion. I really enjoy driving an F2, which is very well tuned, a pleasant car, light and powerful. I'd like to thank Laurent and his team for bringing us historic races at the highest level.

Tristan Gommendy, former professional driver: It's extraordinary to drive this car, it's very well tuned and gives you immediate confidence. It brings back good memories and, in the end, they come back quite quickly. Fortunately, there are organisers like HVM Racing to allow these cars to be driven and to remind us that there's nothing better in the world than a V8 or a V10.
