THE FINAL ROUND OF THE FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIP
In the pre-90s GT/Tourism category, Emmanuel Brigand, a 56-year-old from Touraine, claimed his second French Championship title this weekend after his one-two finish in Racing Over 2L with his Porsche 930 Gr4. This industrial entrepreneur, author of more than 150 podium finishes in motor sport since his debut in 1990, has only let one victory slip through his fingers this season: the first race at Dijon following a tyre problem. With 386 points out of a possible 400, he is ahead of last year's rival Philippe Gandini. The 63-year-old mortgage broker from the Paris region scored 321 points in the Maxi 1300 Series with his Mini Cooper S. Florent Cazalot and his Lotus Seven completed the podium with 299 points in the Lotus Trophy.
Also in the GT/Touring category, but this time post 90s, 19-year-old neophyte Augustin Moreau took the title in his 1990 Honda Civic EE9 entered in the Youngtimers GTI Cup. At the wheel of his father's car, he scored 319 points this season, 14 more than his pursuer Patrick Delannoy and his 305 points scored in GT Classic with his Porsche 964 RSR. Sébastien Mathieu, the 2021 French champion, took third place with 291 points, also scored in GT Classic with his 1996 BMW M3 GTR EVO.
In the single-seater/rotor category, 38-year-old Jean-Charles Monnet claimed his first French Championship* title after a one-two finish this weekend in his Martini MK48 in the Formula Renault Classic Trophy. He scored 380 points, with only 2 victories eluding him at Charade against former double champion Lionel Robert. He is just 5 points ahead of former French champion François Belle, who relinquished his lead after Race 1 this weekend, when he finished third in the Formula Ford Historic class with his Lola T 540 E. In third place came Swiss driver Gislain Genecand and his Crosslé 25 F with 351 points.
Finally, in the Historic Endurance category, the duo of Jean-François Besson and Guillaume Gagnard won their first title in their magnificent 1971 Chevron B16 FVC with 132 points. They were ahead of Christian Danne and Julien Grenet, who scored 117 points in their 1978 Porsche 911 SC. Jean-Michel Guermonprez rounded off the podium with 101 points in his 1973 Grac MT14.

THEY SAID
Jean-Charles MONNET, French Single-Seater/Protos Champion and double winner this weekend: ‘The final round of the championship looked rather bad for me... No time in qualifying and a start from the back of the grid in Race 1. I still managed to win despite carburettor problems all weekend. It just goes to show that nothing can be taken for granted and you have to believe in yourself right to the end!
Jean-François BESSON and Guillaume GAGNARD, French Historic Endurance Champions: ‘We started at Charade with no objective of winning the championship, but in the end the season went perfectly! Initially, it was a trial, we didn't think it would come to this, but we made good progress and managed to win this title. We're very happy with this victory.
Augustin MOREAU, Post 90 French GT/Touring Champion: ‘This is my second season with this Civic in the Youngtimers GTI Cup. If there's one thing we can take away from this season, it's the word progress, because between the start and the end of the championship, it wasn't the same driving!
Emmanuel BRIGAND, French GT/Tourism Pre 90 Champion (second year running): ‘We had a perfect season in which we won all the races except the C1 at Dijon because of a tyre problem... My team and I got stronger because on average I gained 3 seconds per lap on each circuit, we did a lot of work on the car. Yesterday we won the scratch race on wet grease in front of the protos, so we're heading in the right direction, I'm delighted and long live HVM Racing. I fought right to the end and I love winning!
